Sodium benzoate

Sodium benzoate also known as benzoate of soda is the sodium salt of benzoic acid, widely used as a food preservative (with an E number of E211) and a pickling agent. It appears as a white crystalline chemical with the formula C6H5COONa.

Description

Sodium Benzoate is the standard preservative used in the Beverage Industry. Typically 0.3 to 0.8% is used in finished products. Sodium Benozate is often used to preserve the flavour syrup to the addition of the beverage acidulant. The Shell Life can be greatly extended by Sodium Benzoate.
